Are you the kind of person who’s seeking peace, quiet, and meaningful diving experiences? Imagine a slow morning coffee by the beach, a diving day with no crowds, evening rain, and a restful dinner with your favorite books. If this sounds like you, then the perfect time for you to visit Koh Tao is late September – early December.

The rainy season in Koh Tao runs from late September to early December. During this time, many divers and tourists leave the island, some local shops take short breaks, and gentle monsoon rains start to roll in. The air feels fresher, the beaches are quieter, and the sound of rain replaces the busy chatter of high season. This is when Koh Tao reveals its calm, authentic side, perfect for anyone who loves solitude, nature, and the slower rhythm of island life. You might wake up to mist-covered hills, soft rain falling on palm leaves, and that comforting feeling that the world has slowed down just for a moment.

And while it’s true that this is the monsoon season, diving in Koh Tao is possible all year round. Thanks to its location in the Gulf of Thailand, the island is protected from the large waves and strong currents that often affect other parts of the country. So even during the rainy months, we can still find great dive sites to explore.

Koh Tao has many dive sites within a short boat ride, so we always choose the ones that suit the day’s weather and wind direction. The visibility might not be as clear as in summer, but the underwater world remains full of life, from colorful corals to reef fish, and sometimes even surprise visitors like turtles or rays. Plus, with fewer boats around, it’s a peaceful and almost meditative diving experience.

What to do in Koh Tao when it’s rainy season?

8. Enjoy the tranquility of the island!

Every year, both New Heaven Dive School and the New Heaven Reef Conservation take a short break during this quiet season, usually from November 1st to December 10th, depending on the weather. After a full year of diving, freediving, and running marine conservation projects, this is our time to pause, recharge, and enjoy the island’s calm energy.

We spend this period maintaining our dive equipment, updating our conservation projects, and giving our team the rest they deserve after months of hard work underwater. It’s also when we reconnect with the island’s rhythm, the slower days, the sound of rain on the rooftops, and the quiet beauty that reminds us why we fell in love with Koh Tao in the first place.

So, if you’d like to join us for diving in Koh Tao during the rainy season, make sure to plan your visit before November begins. It’s the perfect time for peaceful dives, cozy island moments, and reconnecting with nature, all at your own unhurried pace.
