That’s where the Try Scuba experience comes in. It’s a relaxed, beginner-friendly introduction to scuba diving in Koh Tao, giving you the chance to breathe underwater, build confidence, and connect with the ocean in a meaningful way.
SSI Try Scuba 1- Day Course in Koh Tao
Try Scuba experience offers a gentle and accessible introduction to the underwater world. Designed as a flexible beginner diving experience, it allows you to explore the ocean without committing to a full certification, perfect for curious beginners who simply want to see what diving in Koh Tao is all about.
In this course, you will be supervised by the dive instructor, dive in a small group (1 instructor: 2-4 students), and dive to a maximum depth of 12 meters.
What does this Try Scuba 1-Day course look like?
Register for the Try Scuba course online via Email, Facebook, or Instagram one day beforehand.
Meet up at New Heaven Dive School early in the morning to prepare the diving equipment and theory class by the beach.
Departure from New Heaven Dive School by boat. Dive briefing on the boat before jumping in.
Dive 1: Introduction/Confined dive in shallow water, learn how to use the dive equipment and basic scuba diving skills.
Lunch break, tropical fruits, surface intervals, and debrief from Dive 1.
Dive 2: Go deeper within the maximum depth of 12 meters, enjoy a real scuba diving experience, swim alongside tropical marine life, and be friends with the fish!

Q: I have glasses and can’t see well without them. How can I dive?
A: No problem at all. For your scuba diving experience in Koh Tao, we offer prescription diving masks to help you see clearly underwater. Alternatively, you’re welcome to wear daily contact lenses, which work perfectly well during the dive.
Q: I can’t swim. Can I still join the course?
A: Yes, you can still join our scuba diving 1-day course. No formal swimming test is required for the Try Scuba experience. However, being comfortable in the water is important, as you’ll be diving in the open ocean around Koh Tao under the close supervision of your SSI professional.
Q: Can kids go diving? And can I dive with my kids?
A: Absolutely. Diving in Koh Tao can be a beautiful shared experience for families. Children from 8 years old can join the program, with a smaller instructor-to-student ratio (1:2) to ensure safety and comfort. Parents are welcome to dive alongside their kids, with a maximum depth of 5 meters in line with SSI standards for young divers.
