Freediving is more than just a sport or exploring the ocean; it’s a journey inward to yourself, all within a single breath. While scuba divers swim among the fish and take in the sights, freedivers find something a little different. They slip beneath the surface in silence, discovering a deep sense of peace, stillness, and connection with the sea and with themselves. It’s a mindful experience, where each dive brings clarity, calm, and a feeling of freedom that words can barely capture.
But how are Freediving and Yoga connected?
At New Heaven Dive School, Koh Tao, Devrim Zahir, the owner, scuba and freediving instructor, yoga teacher, and beloved one, has discovered the deep connection between the ocean and inner peace. With a lifelong passion for the sea and wellness, Devrim found that freediving and yoga are truly one. Through pranayama, the art of mindful breathing in yoga, we learn to control and expand the breath, just as we do in freediving, where a single breath carries us into the quiet world beneath the surface. Both practices invite calmness, presence, and self-awareness. Whether you’re floating in stillness underwater or flowing through a yoga pose, the feeling is the same: peaceful, focused, free.
Our Freediving and Yoga course takes 3 days, led by our family! Devrim and his son Turan, lifelong members and instructors at New Heaven Dive School. This course is all about freediving, wellness, and the ocean. Anyone with basic swimming ability can join!
